BIG POPI

BIG POPI

7 • Ridable • Healthy

Popi was a jumper and enjoyed traveling over the fence to visit with the other wild mustangs. For such a small-stature horse, the fence didn’t seem to be an issue (at least not in the winter!) Popi was removed from the Yakama reservation sometime in 2018 or 2019 and brought to Teton Valley, eventually finding his way to HAPI Trails in 2021. Healthy and robust, he’s been through training and is fun under saddle. While his training continues, embarking on a new journey, we wish him a future full of exciting adventures and taller fences.

SUNSHINE

SUNSHINE

25 • Non Riding • Healthy

Hopefully, it’s obvious how she got her name. Sunshine is a beautiful Palomino mare who found her way to us in the fall of 2020 after a lifetime of neglect and mishandling. She continues to struggle with trust and acceptance of human interaction, but as her health flourished, so did her willingness to receive some care. If the sun is shining, this cute mare enjoys a gentle touch… and if you’re willing, a few butt scratches.

DUSTY

DUSTY

18 • Healthy • Companion

Dusty won our hearts the second she stepped off the trailer… Emaciated and weak. She had worked hard to get to HAPI, keeping her balance for a 2-hour trailer ride, and she wouldn’t give up when she arrived! Through an incredible effort from our Vet and dedicated volunteers, Dusty has bounced back into a solid, full-bodied horse with a personality to boot! She is vocal, engaging, and eager – especially if you have treats! After her assessment, it was determined that Dusty has a bum knee and can no longer be ridden. Light rides could be possible with the right person; understand that she is an ex-barrel horse – she still likes to go!

CAL

CAL

20+ • Non-Riding • Healthy

Cal is a sweet, loving and gentle guy. He’s an easy keeper and gets along well with pasture mates. He’s been with us, or in foster care, for a long time. He recently came back to us because his pasture mate passed away and we didn’t want him to be alone. If your looking for some one to love – he’s your man!

OPIE

OPIE

30 • Companion • Healthy

Our resident Mule. Opie is a glorious 30+ years old and doesn’t act a day over 20. He’s a big boy with a solid disposition and a solid girth – dieting doesn’t seem to help. He’s happy this way and stays active. Opie is a retired Forest Service mule out of the Salmon Idaho district. He was retired with 4 other equine who have all been adopted. We really wish he could find his forever home too! He’s non-riding now, but fully engaging and easy to keep. Don’t you want a mule to hang out with?

LILY

LILY

20 • Companion • Healthy

Lily, our longest resident, came to HAPI Trails in 2011 from Blackfoot Law Enforcement. She was removed from her home with her yearling and 3-year-old. The young ones found a forever home, and Lily found her way to us. She has an old hoof injury that keeps her from being ridden and makes her difficult to trim (she doesn’t like it being touched – at all). Other than the hoof issue, she is a doll. Loving, easy, and beautiful. She gets along with all critters and is ready and willing to find her forever home. Photo: LaraAgnew

MEMPHIS

MEMPHIS

8 • Ridable:Needs Training

She is art in motion… (Mainly because she’s running from you!) A beautiful BLM Mustang, she came to us obese and suffering. She is as strong minded and wild, as much as she is physically strong and beautiful. After almost 9 months with us, this overweight, foundered and un-rideable mare has lost the weight and her feet are on the mend – thanks to our dedicated volunteers who have been diligent about her care. Memphis is now heathy enough to begin training later this summer. We image the line to adopt her will be very long… (Hopefully we won’t need that ‘line’ help to catch her!)

FOSTER CARE

ROXANNE

ROXANNE

7 • Healthy • In FOSTER

A stunning roan, Yakama Mustang mare. This girl has our number and calls it regularly to tell us to ‘stay away.’ She’s our most elusive horse to date. Other than when in the trailer for the ride to HAPI,
she won’t allow anyone to get close. We called in the professionals for this beauty. And even though she has been through several training rounds, she still prefers to remain elusive. Once caught, she is a bit spooky but trusts enough to have her feet trimmed, her teeth floated, and her vaccinations completed. No matter her calling: wild, companion, trail, or jumper. We want her to have the right number!

MIRANDA

MIRANDA

18 • Foster Care • Healthy

Miranda, the wayward highway traveler. Literally. Miranda was found walking along a local highway. After being gathered up by a nearby household, we discovered an unattended injury and long hooves. We don’t know how long or from how far away she came; no one ever claimed her. But we know that once she realized she was in good hands, she let her guard down and blossomed into a beautiful, gentle soul. Miranda has been in Foster care for a while but is still (possibly) available for adoption. Of course, her Foster family loves and adores her, so we hope she has found her safe, loving, forever home.
Fingers Crossed!

CADY

CADY

29 • In Foster

Ahh, Cady. Our sweet little lady with a heart bigger as big the moon. She came to us in 2015 from a hoarding situation with four others. We didn’t know much about her, but once she was healthy, she was adopted by a wonderful local family. Cady spent the next few years participating in 4H and showing that even being a little older, you still have lots of life to live! But as life changed, so did circumstances, and the family had to move and couldn’t take her. Cady is back with us, hoping to find that forever home. She is special needs but will give you all the love you need in return.
